The two chart rivals appeared to have fallen out when rapper West took aim at Timberlakes Suit & Tie hit during a London concert in February, revealing he wasnt a fan of the tune the singer recorded with his pal and collaborator Jay Z. He told the crowd, I got love for Hov (Jay Z), but I aint f with that Suit & Tie. Timberlake responded a month later while performing on Saturday Night Live by changing the lyrics to the song and singing, My hits so sick got rappers acting dramatic. (Photo by Larry Busacca/Getty Images for MTV) But now it seems their brief spat is over following a meeting behind the scenes at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. In a new interview, Timberlake insists he was not upset or annoyed by Wests remarks, stating, At the end of the day its just music. I love the record, I love Suit & Tie. It reminds me of the music I grew up listening to. I respect his opinion because I think hes a genius, but I dont share that opinion. And he told MTV newsman Sway Calloway that he and West had exchanged pleasantries at the VMAs, adding, I told him, I f with you, in a way that you probably dont even understand.

November 2004: The loss of Best New Artist to Gretchen Wilson at the American Music Awards turned 'Ye into an outspokenly sore loser. The "College Dropout" artist not only walked out of the AMAs, he told the press , "I felt like I was definitely robbed. ... I was the best new artist this year." September 2005: If you didn't know by September 2005 that Kanye is not the type to stick to the script, he proved it during a relief telethon for Hurricane Katrina victims. Speaking alongside Mike Myers, 'Ye memorably started ad-libbing, leading to a phrase that still hasn't lived down its infamy: "George Bush doesn't care about black people." February 2006: A year after his theatrical performance of "Jesus Walks" at the Grammys, West posed as Jesus Christ on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine in February 2006.

Kanye West: Love's more important than branding

Walker Never one to play by a prescribed set of rules, Kanye West flipped the script on a TV audience of millions when he played "Blood on the Leaves" instead of "Black Skinhead" at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards on August 25. More than a mere act of defiance, the move was a poignant demonstration that West is just as capable of raising awareness about racism as he is of shaking up people's ideas of what hip-hop and popular music should entail sonically. The song samples Nina Simone's cover of Billie Holiday's "Strange Fruit." That song, released in 1939, was based on a poem by Abel Meeropol about the lynching of African Americans in the days of Southern slavery. The sobering lyrics include the lines, "Black bodies swinging in the southern breeze/ Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees." West started the performance in near-darkness lit only by a small spotlight.
